IMPHAL:

Former Chairman of Chandel Autonomous District Council, Lukhosei Zou, was released after the Special Court (ND & PS) Manipur acquitted him in the drug haul case on December 17.

Lukhosei Zou was arrested after Manipur Police under the leadership of Th. Brinda allegedly seized contraband drugs and hard cash from his residence.

The Court said that the prosecution has failed to prove the charges levelled against Zou and has thus acquitted him because no evidence against him could be found.

It may be noted that Zou was allegedly caught possessing heroin worth ₹ 27 crore and 28 kilograms of amphetamine tablets, along with a large amount of cash on June 20, 2018 from his residence.

Congress MLA K. Meghachandra slammed the BJP and said, “The Congress have no confidence on the BJP Government’s initiative (‘War against Drugs’) as Zou have been acquitted as he is a member of the BJP.”

He should be properly penalised under the law of the land, added Meghachandra.
