Manipur CM rules out lockdown option despite surge in COVID-19 cases

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, in an emergency meeting held on Thursday, said they have ruled out the lockdown option despite a surge in the COVID-19 cases in the state.

The State Government resolved to continue taking responsibility for accommodation and provide all necessary equipment for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

The government also requested the MLAs, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), local clubs, associations and volunteers to provide support in imparting awareness to the masses on strict implementation of Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) and COVID-19 appropriate behaviours.

The meeting witnessed the participation of all the cabinet ministers, state consultative committee for COVID-19, Joint Committee of CSOs on Awareness, State COVID Task Force, officials of Health Department, Deputy Commissioners (Imphal East and Imphal West) and representatives of People’s Task Force on COVID-19.

Earlier on Monday, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said that the Chief Secretary of Manipur has written to the Home Ministry to seek their advice on imposing another 10 to 14 days lockdown.
