IMPHAL:

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday expressed his disappointment over the decision of the government college teachers to boycott classes from the 17th of this month.

“Teachers should have a sense of responsibility. The cabinet has decided to implement the University Grants Commission (UGC) 7th pay commission, and we are committed to it. What our government is asking them is to give us three to four months' time," Singh said.

The teachers under the banner Federation of Government College Teachers’ Association (FEGOCTA) had, on February 6, decided to take mass casual leaves on February 12 and 13 and, to boycott classes from Feb 17.

FEGOCTA has been organising a series of agitation demanding the government to implement the UGC 7th pay Commission.

It may be mentioned that the Manipur cabinet had decided to implement the 7th UGC pay for the government college teachers in August 2020, but hasn’t implemented it so far.
