IMPHAL:

The people of Manipur celebrated Imoinu Day, a part of the Meitei cultural ritual, on Monday.

They celebrate the traditional festival on the 12th day of the Meitei Lunar Month of Wakching.

As part of the ritual, every year on this day, the people of the valley would serve dishes in odd numbers as part of the Imoinu Eratpa ritual.

They regard Imoinu Eratpa as a goddess of hearth, prosperity, abundance and order of domesticity in Manipur, and the Meitei community celebrate this day to honour the great grandmother Emoinu.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh greeted the people on the occasion and informed that the celebration keeps the tradition of Manipur alive and reinforces the belief in traditional elements.
