Manipur by-polls: ECI issues directives to CEO on political ads

IMPHAL:

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur to ensure that on the poll day and one day prior to the poll day, no political advertisement should be published in print media without pre-certification.

The by-polls to four assembly constituencies in Manipur will be held on November 7.

The ECI further directed the CEO to ensure that no untoward incident takes place because of inflammatory, misleading or hate advertisements.

"No political party or candidate or any other organization or persons shall publish any advertisement in the print media on the poll day and one day before the poll day i.e. November 6-7," read the letter.

For advertisements that are published on the day of the poll and one day before polling, pre-certification of the Advertisement from MCMC (Media Certifications and Monitoring Communities) is necessary.

The ECI further stated that to facilitate the process of pre-certification of the newspaper advertisements, the MCMC at the state and district-level should be immediately alerted and activated to examine and pre-certify all such advertisements received from the political parties, candidates and others.
