NEW DELHI:

Manipur has become the fourth state in the country to complete urban local bodies reforms (ULB) and consequently received the Union Finance Ministry’s approval for additional borrowing of Rs 75 crore.

The Department of Expenditure has permitted Manipur to take an additional borrowing on January 11, 2021, for developmental activities in the state.

Manipur has now joined three other states - Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana that have completed ULB reforms.

Urban Local Bodies and urban utilities reforms aim at strengthening ULBs in the state to enable the states to provide better public health, sanitation and infrastructure to the public.

Ten states have implemented the One Nation One Ration Card System, seven have done ease of doing business reforms, and four have done local body reforms.

Each of these states has been granted additional borrowings.
