The All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM), on Wednesday, apprised the state government to note the order issued by the SDO of Porompat on December 24, 2020, that ordered the eviction of churches in tribal colonies in Imphal east.

While addressing reporters, ATSUM General Secretary S.R Andria said, “According to a Supreme Court ruling in 2009 and a subsequent order in 2010, it asked to regularise many religious structures in the public domain that include unauthorised construction of religious structures.”

“The state government also formed a committee and had regularised 188 standing religious structures in five districts in Manipur in 2011, but not a single Christian church was included,” Andria said.

The tribal body also appealed to the state government for inclusivity and asked to halt the eviction order and to include other religious structures in the October 27, 2011, regularisation order.
