IMPHAL:

A 48-year-old Anganwadi worker based in Terakha, Moirang, passed away on Friday - seven days after receiving the Covishield vaccine.

According to sources, W. Sundari Devi had developed a fever alongside rashes after she received the Covid-19 vaccine on February 12.

She was taken to the Community Health Centre in Moirang on February 16.

On February 18, her condition deteriorated and passed away shortly afterwards.

Meanwhile, the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union of Manipur submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding Rs 50 lakh as compensation to the kin of the deceased.

When contacted, Dr N. Shyamjai Singh from the State Health Mission said that they are constituting a state-level committee to find out the exact cause of death.

"It will take 8 to 10 days to finally come to a conclusion. We had also taken the vaccine and we have to know if the vaccine is harmful or not and take necessary precaution if at all it causes such infection and death. We are not going to outrightly deny that it wasn't the cause," said Dr Singh.
