Manipur: AMSU demands removal of order in fees issue

The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), on Friday, barred the office gate of the Directorate of Education (S) in Lamphelpat, Imphal West, in protest against the order issued on October 5.

The order, signed by the Commissioner of Education (S), Government of Manipur, T. Ranjit Singh, directed all private and government-aided schools to collect 30 per cent of the fees from April 2020 till date.

It also directed the schools to pay the teachers at least 50 per cent of the payable salary from April.

Meanwhile, the AMSU stated that many students would be unable to pay for the months they were away from school, as they too suffered the economic effects brought about by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Directorate of Education (S) will remain closed until they reach an agreement with the government, the AMSU stated.

The union also demanded the removal of the October 5 order at the earliest.
