Manipur: 12 arrested for smuggling timber, wild bear meat

IMPHAL:

Assam Rifles intercepted two Maruti Gypsies while they were on their way from Somra Tract in Myanmar towards Ukhrul in Manipur and seized illegal timber and wild meat.

The troopers arrested 12 individuals along with four Kundagaris with illegal timber, wild bear meat and three single bore guns.

Upon interrogation, the suspects revealed they were smuggling timber, and that they had killed the bear at Ngacham, Myanmar.

The Assam Rifles later handed the suspects over to Chingai Police Station.
