Key UNLF cadre arrested in Manipur

THOUBAL: The unit of 39 Assam Rifles, on Sunday, arrested a key member of the banned United National Liberation Front (UNLF) of Manipur.

Police identified the cadre as 40-year-old Saikhom Anil Meitei, the son of (L) S. Khadrakpa Meitei.

An official from Assam Rifles informed that the subversive member is actively involved in carrying out operations for the group.

"He was promoted to Lieutenant after having received basic military training of 90 days at Yangching Training Centre in Nagaland under Army number 1062 of 17th batch," the official said.

"Thereby he was involved in commanding the major Inao unit of the UNLF and helping the outfit with day-to-day operations," he added.

Saikhom Anil Meitei also had in his possession several denominations of foreign currency notes totalling to Rs. 30,800.

After a detailed search, the Assam Rifles team handed him over to Khongjom-Police Station (PS) for further legal action and interrogation.
