Former Manipur CS and Congress leader O. Nabakishore Singh joins BJP

Congress candidate for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary seat in 2019, O. Nabakishore Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday, October 12 in the presence of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and BJP state President S. Tikendra Singh.

O. Nabakishore Singh had received 2,45,877 votes as against the 2,63,632 votes secured by BJP’s RK Ranjan Singh. He lost the 2019 parliamentary election by a margin of 17, 755 votes.

Singh is a former Chief Secretary (CS) of Manipur; he is said to be the first from the Meitei community to hold the CS post in Manipur.

Singh, who hails from Ningthoukhong in Bishnupur district, is said to have an illustrious academic career.

According to sources, he had topped the state matriculation examination in 1975 and completed his M.Sc in Physics from Delhi University in 1982.

An IAS of the 1984 batch, O. Nabakishore took voluntary retirement from his service as a civil servant in February 2019.

After losing to the BJP in the 2019 election, O. Nabakishore had remained low key.
