IMPHAL:

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, on Tuesday, gave an update on the status of the Dzukou Valley inferno and said that fire is still visible in five locations below Mt. Esii range towards Koziirii Forest.

He also stated that 106 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team had been deployed since Monday to reach ground zero on foot from the base camp to combat the wildfire.

"The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Fire Department has also arrived at ground zero to assess and implement additional manpower to combat the wildfire descending downwards of Koziirii forest," Singh said.

"The locals are constantly engaged in the transportation of manpower, water and food. They are responsible for guiding the security and NDRF team through steep mountains to reach the ground zero,” he added.

The fire broke out at Dzukou Valley on the Nagaland side on December 29 and rapidly spread to Manipur due to the uncontrolled wind speed prompting the Manipur government to seek the intervention of the centre.
