IMPHAL:

A documentary film based on the life of Manipuri boxer Laishram Sarita Devi won the awards for “Best film on women” and “Outstanding achievement award” at the tenth edition of the Tagore International Film Festival, 2020, in West Bengal.

“I RISE” is a 52-minute documentary film directed by Borun Thokchom and produced by Films Division, Mumbai.

The film begins with the biggest controversy in Sarita’s boxing career at the 2014 Asian Games, Incheon, when she refused to accept the bronze medal.

The International Boxing Association or AIBA termed her actions as “disrespectful” and suspended her.

According to sources, Borun Thokchom made the film because he felt that Sarita was neglected even though she was doing well like Mary Kom.

Sarita is a recipient of the Arjuna Award and won several medals in international events.

The Tagore International Film Festival (TIFF) is a monthly live screening film, music, and screenwriting competition. The live screenings take place at the end of each month.
