IMPHAL:

Manipur, along with the rest of the country, started the statewide COVID-19 vaccination drive on Saturday.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh flagged off the vaccination drive at JNIMS hospital in Imphal.

The first person to receive the vaccine was Romesh, a medical attendant at JNIMS hospital.

It was informed that in the first phase 9617 healthcare workers of the State will be vaccinated at 10 selected centres, followed by frontline workers and people above 50 years of age in the second and third phase, respectively.

Chief Minister Biren Singh also informed that the Covishield vaccine developed by Oxford University and Astra-Zeneca is safe, immunogenic and efficacious.
