Congress leaders in Manipur seek appointment with President over MLAs disqualification row

IMPHAL:

The Congress has sought an appointment with the President of India on disqualification of MLAs, who were appointed as Parliamentary Secretaries in Manipur during 2017.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Manipur Bhakta Charan Das and other members of the Congress in Manipur, including MLAs and MPs have signed a representation to the President seeking a meeting to discuss the matter.

The Congress MLAs also sought an urgent appointment with the Governor of Manipur on the same, however, the Raj Bhavan has not replied to the meeting request.

Currently, the MLAs led by former Chief Minister of Manipur, O. Ibobi Singh are in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, the Congress leaders have also roped in AICC legal team including senior advocate Kapil Sibal, Abhishek Manu Singhvi and others for constitutional discussion and subsequent action on the matter.
