The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee on November 4 organised a campaign rally at Kodompokpi Western Side near Sports Complex, Wangjing Manipur, to support Moirangthem Hemanta Singh, Indian National Congress candidate, who will contest from Wangjing-Tentha assembly constituency.

Addressing the gathering, CLP Leader O. Ibobi Singh said, “According to the law, any member of a political party who switches from one party to another, must be disqualified. But instead of facing disqualification, these people resigned to gain more political benefits. We must not support such selfish politicians.”

Can the present BJP government convert Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences JNIMS and Dhanamanjuri University into central institutions? Singh quoted in a press release.

The former Chief Minister recalled the achievements by the Congress regime like the construction of capital complex, Assembly building, High Court complex, mini secretariats in every district.

He also said that the Congress had done for every district over 15 years, adding that “the public witnessed it all.”

Singh said that the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had also affiliated the state’s Manipur University to central university and Regional Institute of Medical Sciences RIMS hospital under the Central Government upon request.

Former Union Minister and AICC in-charge Manipur Bhakta Charan Das asked how a party (BJP) that has no respect for women and differentiates between Hindus and Muslims ever protect the integrity of the nation.

M. Okendro, MPCC President said, that the present MLAs of the ruling party once built up their fame and success while staying in the Congress party and have abandoned the party like people "throw away old currency, like the way some children abandoned their parents.”

“Congress has been serving the nation for a long time; our leaders even sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Only the Congress party can strengthen secularism and democracy in the country. I request everyone to support our Congress party and give your valuable vote to our candidate, M. Hemanta”, he added. (PTI)
