Campaigning for by-polls in Manipur gains momentum

IMPHAL:

In Manipur, campaigning for the bye-elections to the four-state assembly seats has gained momentum and political leaders are busy in series of public meeting.

Election Commission of India (ECI) had announced bye-elections for five assembly seats of Manipur.

However, BJP candidate of Singhat assembly constituency has been elected unopposed after the rival candidate withdrew his nomination.

The bye poll will be held for the remaining four assembly constituencies on 7th of this month. Counting of votes will be done on 10th November.

In the election campaigns, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and other state BJP leaders are busy addressing back to back public meetings and election rallies in support of party candidates.

Three BJP candidates are in the fray while BJP party supports an independent candidate in Lilong assembly constituency.

These four candidates including the independent candidate had won the last general election in the Congress ticket.

However, they resigned from the Congress and joined BJP recently.

On the other hand, the main opposition party in the State-Congress fielded its candidates in all four assembly constituencies.

Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Manipur O. Ibobi is campaigning for the party candidates.
