The All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM), on Sunday, deferred the proposed 48-hour inter-state bandh on October 26 for ten days.

ATSUM had planned to impose a 48-hour inter-state bandh, and to ban construction works of national projects in the state because of the state government’s silence on conducting the Autonomous District Council (ADCs) elections.

Reportedly, the decision came during the second round of talks between ATSUM, the union’s federating units, and the state government.

The Manipur government has given a written assurance that the state government is ready to consider the timely conduct of the ADC election without further extension, said a release from the Khaiminlen Doungel, information and Publicity Secretary, ATSUM.

The statement further added that within ten days, the state government would adopt a concrete decision for the date of elections to the six ADCs in the next cabinet meeting.

Meanwhile, ATSUM said that it would resume the agitation after ten days.
