Manipur: Smuggled items seized along the border areas

In a series of operation, the Assam Rifles unit of Manipur foiled major smuggling bids on January 13 and 14.

The para-military force seized 270 bags of betel nuts near Baulijang area in Churachandpur District of Manipur.

The assessed market value of the recovered edible item is estimated to be ₹ 33.16 Lakh.

Two individuals involved in the smuggling were also detained along with the seized item.

The arrested persons and recovered items were handed over to District Forest Office, Singhat for further investigation.

Illegal timber recovered from Chandel District

In a similar incident on January 13, troops of Assam Rifles recovered a bulk quantity of illegal timber near Larong in Chandel District.

Officials reported that the timber was being transported without legal documents and the assessed market value of the recovered timber was estimated at ₹ 8 lakhs.
