Assam Rifles foil contraband smuggling attempt in Manipur, five held

IMPHAL:

Chandel Battalion of the Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled a contraband smuggling attempt and arrested five persons at Chandel district in Manipur on February 8.

Acting on specific intelligence, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted four vehicles near Chumthar-Thangin village in Chandel district.

On thorough checking of the vehicles, smuggled clothes and footwear were recovered from the possession of five persons.

"The market value of the recovered goods is assessed to be worth over Rs 53 lakh," officials said.

The smuggled goods along with apprehended individuals and vehicles were handed over to Chandel Police station for further legal action.
