Manipur Assembly polls 2017: Election Commission issues instructions, dates to be announced soon
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has issued instructions to the five poll-bound states on actions required once Model Code of Conduct comes into force.
This could mean that the dates for Assembly elections in Manipur and 4 other poll bound states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Goa will also be announced shortly.
According to sources, preparations for Assembly polls in Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Goa are in the last phase. The Election Commission is likely to announce the schedule any time between December 28 to January 2. It is learnt the ECI will declare dates for Assembly polls after holding a crucial meeting on Dec 30.
The ECI on Tuesday, December 27, held a meeting to discuss security arrangements in all five poll-bound states. As per the reports, central security forces will be deployed in the poll-bound states to conduct a fair election.
The code of conduct for elections will come into force once the ECI announces poll dates. The Commission gives 21 days to the political parties for campaigning after the elections are announced.
