Man beaten to death for killing his wife in Arunachal

ITANAGAR: In one of the most bizarre incidents that occurred in Namsai, a man who allegedly killed his wife and critically injured his mother-in-law was given a taste of his own medicine. The locals on hearing about what he did, lynched him to death.

Rajnish tried to flee the scene but locals caught him and beat him to death. A case has been registered at Namsai police station, the DC said.

According to reports, the man's wife, Bijeta Devi, 28 year-old from Santi Nagar, Namsai was killed by her husband identified as Rajnish Nagarkoti on her reasons for refusing to accompany him to Uttarakhand after a repeated plea. This infuriated Rajnish and eventually he attacked her with sharp weapons, killing her on the spot. Rajnish also attacked his mother-in-law Beauty Devi, who tried to intervene on the matter. She is admitted to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh with multiple injuries.

Police said Bijeta Devi had met Rajnish in Bangalore. They got married and stayed for over seven months in Gurgaon. She soon became a victim of domestic violence and returned to Namsai in December as she wanted to end the relationship. At around 11 am on Thursday, Rajnish visited Bijeta's house and met her father, apologising and requesting him to send his daughter with him. Bijeta was not in the house. At around 3.30 pm, Bijeta returned with her mother. Rajnish tried to persuade his wife to accompany him to Gurgaon, but Bijeta did not relent.
