Respected Editor,

With water levels rising in the Brahmaputra, small boats are sailing across major rivers in the Northeastern region. Jones(name changed) from Meghalaya is finding himself stuck for hours in traffic and not being able to drop his children to school. Frustration among people is increasing amidst the war on climate.

"Between 1950 to 2010 the mean temperature in Assam has increased by 0.01 Celsius per year with the seasonal temperatures showing an increasing trend and the warming being more pronounced in the post-monsoon and winter seasons". Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Biodiversity and Climate Change) A K Johari said (PRESS TRUST OF INDIA)

Temperatures are not soaring and changing on a daily basis but in the coming winter months, things will get more severe. The movie 'Day After Tomorrow' brings a grim reminder of the fact that nature is brutal if we do not respect it. We have missed the bus it seems when it comes to this field.

What are the solutions then? Situational awareness and local planning, sharing the data inputs with different agencies, universities at all levels is the need of the hour. We still have time which is big factor to change things or else if we miss the bus we are doomed to destruction.

Yours faithfully,

Lalrinawami Sailo
