IN PICTURES: 14 GNLA cadres surrenders in Shillong

SHILLONG: After the biggest surrender of the year, another 14 Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) cadres lay down arms and ammunition before the Hon'ble State Home Minister, Roshan Warjri.

Since the inception of Operation Hill Storm III there has been a series of insurgent cadres surrendering themselves. Operation Hill Storm III started with a twin aim of combating militancy in Garo Hills with police tactics as well as mobilizing the public support for restoration of peace in the region. So far so good, everything is falling into place as months go by a huge chunk of cadres have laid down arms and ammunition, not forgetting with the help of NGOs and Church leaders in Garo hills.

The surrender ceremony was graced by State Home Minister Roshan Warjri who urged all the militants to shun the path of violence, to see the reason and join the mainstream.

14 GNLA cadres including GNLA Finance Secretary, Belding Ch Marak alias Rakkam; Area Commander Mathew CH Marak alias Sacheng, Dy Area Commander Sengrak M Sangma alias Ranggam and Sengkal Ch MArak alias Komhsil, Lance Corporal Finance Sengpan M Sangma alias Timtam and other private soldiers have surrendered.

Along with them, one HK Rifle, four AK 56 Rifles, six pistols, two grenades and nearly 500 rounds of ammunition were handed over to the police. As well as GNLA demand pads and other confidential materials. After the ceremony, the police department urges the remaining GNLA cadres to give up their ability to launch terror in the region but as for now they will continue the operation to bring justice and restore peace in Garo Hills.
