SHILLONG: In its effort to retain the traditional culture of the indigenous community of the state besides exposing the talents of the local youth, the Hynñiewtrep Cultural and Welfare Organisation (HTCWO) will organise a traditional singing competition for school children in the month of October.
The participants can enrol for either solo or group competition and musical instruments can also be used during the competition according to the participants' wish. However, only traditional musical instruments will be allowed. Winners will be awarded with certificates besides cash prizes.
The objective of holding this competition is not only to encourage the youth of the state to expose their talents but also to retain and uphold the traditional cultures of the indigenous community of the state.
The HTCWO has also urged the principals of all the schools in Khasi-Jaintia Hills to allow their students to take part in this competition by representing their respective schools.
