Himanta Biswa Sarma inducted into BJP National Executive

 |

NEW DELHI: Himanta Biswa Sarma, who defected from Congress to BJP and played a key role in its big Assam win, was inducted into the Saffron party's National Executive, a day before it meets for a two-day session in Allahabad. This move can be considered to be a significant promotion for this man who swayed the party to victory in Assam.

BJP brought several new faces to its key body, the highlight being some former Congress leaders, including former Odisha Chief Minister and tribal leader Giridhar Gamang and former union minister K P Singh Deo, also from that state.

It may be recalled here that Himanta Biswa Sarma, a former Congressman who is seen as number two in the new BJP government in Assam, was also made convenor of a newly-floated North-East Democratic Alliance.

The new platform of the BJP was formed for development of all northeastern states, hours after Sarbananda Sonowal was sworn-in as the 14th chief minister of Assam.
