High intensity bomb explodes in Tura
SHILLONG: A high intensity bomb exploded today morning at the heart of Tura, West Garo Hills leaving 8 people injured.
The initial verification of the police revealed that the explosion was caused by a grenade however, after proper investigation; it was found that the blast was caused by the improvised explosive device (IED) bomb.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills Pravin Bakshi, the incident took place at around 11 am today at Tura market causing chaos and unrest in the city.
"It was a high impact blast leaving 8 people injured," Bakshi said adding that 7 of the injured persons received minor injuries and were soon discharged after giving first aid. However, one person was seriously injured with burn injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the Tura Civil Hospital.
No militant groups or organisation has claimed responsibility for the blast till the filing of this report. However, police suspect that it was the handwork of the banned militant outfit, GNLA.
"Our initial assumption is that this is the handwork of the GNLA but we haven't received any confirmation in this regard and no one has taken responsibility for the blast yet," Bakshi informed.
