GUWAHATI: The much awaited third edition of the Indian Super League will be held later this year and although reports have not been confirmed, but there have been rumours floating around that the opening ceremony of the ISL 2016 will take place in Guwahati. This is a huge responsibility for the city and the state of Assam who are part of the football frenzy Northeast region.
Multiple sources have confirmed Guwahati to be the most likely venue for the opening ceremony. The Indira Gandhi stadium in Sarusajai will likely be the venue to host it as it has seen some high profile international matches take place there and is the home stadium for the North East United FC team. It will also host Laos there tomorrow, June 7 on the second leg of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.
The two 5 star hotels in the city namely Radisson Blu and Taj Vivanta have also received booking requests from IMG Reliance which is seen a a sure positive sign of the ceremony taking place in the city.There is much excitement due to the impending ceremony and although the Sports Authority of Assam has not received written confirmation, they have however been informed verbally.
