Guwahati first in the country to have it’s very own City Animal

GUWAHATI: Guwahati has another thing to be cheerful about, the city is the first in the country to have it's very own city animal.The animal that has been chose is the Gangetic River Dolphin. The dolphin is also coincidentally the National Aquatic Animal of India.

The Kamrup District Administration had organised a vote which was held on both online and offline platforms and nominated three of the most endangered species on the list— namely Black Softshell Turtle, Gangetic River Dolphin and Greater Adjutant Stork.

The voting process took three months and more than 60,000 participants voted.The Gangetic Dolphin received 24,247 votes.
