FKJGP demands for the opening of a full-fledged PHC at Namdong
SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo Peoples, West Jaintia Hills District on Thursday has demanded the state government to immediately make the PHC Namdong fully operational so as to deliver proper health services to the 27 thousands residents from 47 villages in West Jaintia Hills.
In line with this, the federation met Health Minister AL Hek to put forth their demands. Speaking to media persons soon after their meeting, FKJGP presidentTuesday Lytep said that during their inspection, the federation found out that many of the PHCs and CHCs in East and West Jaintia Hills functions without a full-fledged doctor or the equipments.
In relation to the refusal of the doctors to serve in the rural areas, Lytep said that the federation has suggested the state government to fine the erring doctors upto Rs 5 crore. He said that these doctors should be fined based on their refusal to serve the people despite the fact that they received their medical education through government reservation.
He said that the minister has assured to set up a committee to examine the matter seriously and to tackle the lackadaisical attitude of some government doctors.
Moreover, the federation has also demanded for the appointment of a full-fledged District Medical and Health Officer at East Jaintia Hills District and to appoint full-fledged nurses, who secured a seat in medical colleges government reservation, at the CHCs, PHCs and Civil Hospitals.
Further he said that the federation also demand for release the pending salary of the staff of the CHCs and PHCs, the same of which was pending for months now.
