DoNER announces Rs 200 Crore package for Assam
GUWAHATI: Union minister of state (Independent Charge) Jitendra Singh announced Rs 200 Crore package for Assam, during a press meet in the state capital on Wednesday. The Minister stated that these projects are mostly related to water supply schemes and roadways.
Highlighting the uniqueness of these projects the Minister said, "These projects are specifically formulated keeping in mind the needs of the state".
The minister also announced Rs 125 crore package for entire North East, to develop organic farming, starting with cardamom and few variety of fruits.
The Minister said, "The project is shaped on Anand Cooperative pattern and detailed project report has already been sent to various ministries for their suggestions".
He also said that the Union Ministry is formulating a 'Make in North East' model in line with the 'Make in India' initiative, so as to promote the Act East policy of the Union Government. The Minister said, "in order to bring the ministry closer to people, firstly, we have come up with a scheme called DoNER at Doorstep, wherein DoNER officials will visit the North Eastern states and secondly, a roster is developed wherein around eight ministers will travel to North East every fortnight, to have an assessment and feedback of state's plans and policies".
The Minister also stated that the matter of upgradation of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport was taken up by the Chief Minister of Assam and the ministry is committed to take up the matter with the Union Civil Aviation Ministry, along with upgradation of airports of other North Eastern states, so as to improve intra-regional connectivity.
