Curfew continues in two villages of Assam; post-mortem report of 20-yr-old awaited

GUWAHATI | JUNE 24, 2020:

A curfew was imposed in two villages in Dibrugarh district of Assam after a 20-year old boy was killed on June 19.

Following the incident, residents of Lezai area blocked the highway to Dibrugarh and demanded justice for the deceased.

An official said that the situation in the area has improved compared to two days ago after a meeting which was held with all the stakeholders at the Deputy Commissioner's office on Monday. A compensation cheque was handed over to the victim's family and a Peace Committee was formed.

The curfew was imposed on June 20 and still continues in Lezai and Dewanbari areas. Meanwhile, three people have been arrested, so far and the post-mortem report is awaited, the official added.

The incident took place on June 19 where the victim's body was found by the National Disaster Response Force personnel, after 24 hours of continuous search in the flooded river.
