Coronavirus Scare: 4-yr-old girl tested negative in Assam

GUWAHATI | MARCH 22, 2020:

In Assam, a four-year-old, who was tested positive for coronavirus at Jorhat Medical College Centre (JMCH) in Assam's Jorhat district on Saturday, was declared negative by the Regional Viral Research & Diagnostic Laboratory of the ICMR-RMRC in Lahoal, Dibrugarh on Sunday.

On Saturday evening, the child had tested positive after a test done at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) by the officials. She had come to Assam by train with her mother and sister and reached Jorhat on March 18 from Bihar.

The child was running a high fever and so to double-check the results, the girl's samples were sent to the Indian Council of Medical Research's (ICMR's) Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) at Lahowal in Dibrugarh district.

Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that there is no Covid-19 positive case in Assam so far. The four and a half year old girl who was suspected of novel Coronavirus has been found negative.

He tweeted at around 7:00AM on Sunday;

He said the 4 year old child who was suspected of #covid19 and tested in Jorhat Medical College and RMRC, Dibrugarh has been found NEGATIVE. There is no Covid19 positive case in Assam so far.

Jorhat deputy commissioner Roshni Aparanji Korati informed on Sunday morning that the test at RMRC has been tested negative for Covid-19.

The child may, however, be suffering from another strain of coronavirus.

According to sources, the sample has been sent for the third round of testing.

No case of Covid-19 has been detected in the entire northeast region so far as the number across the country rose to 315 on Saturday.
