Assam will project it's tourism potential in the Global Investment Summit to be organised here on February 3 and 4, for investment.

The state tourism department officials said tourism will be one of its major focus areas for investment as it plans to attract tourists from South East Asian countries due to its geographical locations.
"Since the state tourism policy 2017 was formulated recently, talks about involving private players for tourism promotion will be held. We will also highlight our tourism potential and areas where private tour companies can join hands and invest. We are looking for private players to operate and manage the existing infrastructure manned by Assam Tourism Development Corporation, development of river cruise, on-shore infrastructure on the Brahmaputra, golf course-cum-resort and convention center," said the source.
Investors and industrialists from several countries have been invited for the summit to be inaugurated in Guwahati by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The tourism policy offered incentives to private players for making tourism a industry and generate employment in the state. The policy aims to increase tourists' inflow to the state by three fold in the next five years. According to an estimate in 2014, Assam saw the visit of 45 lakh domestic and 20,000 foreign tourists. The department appointed Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra as it's brand ambassador.
It is targetting promotion of wildlife, spiritual tourism, ethnic tourism, tea and golf tourism, river tourism, adventure, monsoon and leisure tourism, medical tourism, mining tourism and film tourism.
"In tune with the Act East Policy of the Centre and to exploit the opportunities for tourism expansion opened up by the Trans-Asian Highway, particular attention will be given to connect the destinations by good all-weather road links from this highway. The road connectivity of the North-West of South East Asia (Assam) to South East Asian countries via Myanmar and Thailand to Singapore, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam will open floodgate for the tourists from these countries," says the tourism policy which will remain effective till 2022.
