Citizenship amendment Bill,Tripura Royal’s welcome AGP stance, asks for regional party to show solidarity with the indigenous people

The head of the erstwhile Royal Family of Tripura and Working President of the Tripura Congress Pradyot Manikya Debbarma has welcomed the decision of the AGP on the issue of the citizenship amendment bill where the regional party from Assam withdrew their support to the BJP after the saffron party decided to bring in the controversial Citizenship Amendment bill in the Parliament .

In a statement Pradyot Manikya who also is the national Secretary of the Congress party said that regional parties across Northeast and Tripura who are in alliance with the BJP should pressurise the centre to either withdraw the bill or come out of alliance .

It pains me when our regional parties who claim to fight for the indigenous people fail to stand firm on fundamental issues such as the citizenship amendment bill and NRC . We need to tell those who play with our existence that temporary power and post cannot deter our future and we owe it to our next generation to take a principled stand.

In Tripura IPFT which is the ally in the state has opposed the citizenship amendment act has largely stayed quiet on the issue and come out with a press release in support of the NESO bandh . Regional parties like INPT, TPF and IPFT ( Tipraha) have all been vocal .Pradyot Manikya Debbarma has often been at loggerheads with his own party but this time the Congress has been seen to support him in this issue .

CWC members like Tarun Gogoi and former CM of Meghalaya Mukul Sangma have also expressed similar views to that of Debbarma . It maybe mentioned that Pradyot Manikya has also filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court for implementation of NRC in Tripura .
