Lord Vishwakarma is known to be the divine Engineer since the Puranic age and hence, as a mark of reverence he is worshiped by most professional communities like engineers, people related with transport business, mechanics etc. This festival is celebrated in the month of September and this year, this festival is being celebrated on September 17, 2018.

On this day all the workers in the workshops and offices worship their tools and instruments in front of the diety, Lord Vishwakarma – tools which are generally used in their profession. Vishwakarma Puja is also celebrated by industrial houses, artists, craftsman and weavers.

The festival is observed on the Kanya Sankranti Day (September) which is followed after Ganesh Chathurthi. The Hindus believe that this is the puja of Lord Vishwakarma, the main architect of the universe who had fabricated the universe as per the direction of Brahma, the lord of creation.

The festival is celebrated with lots of joy and enthusiasm across the country. On this day people wake up early in the morning in order to wash their cars, bikes or any other mechanical equipments or tools for worshiping them as they are considered to be tools of Lord Vishwakarma.

Though there is no government holiday on this day but no work is done in most government offices, shops, factories etc as all such premises are cleaned and decorated for idol worshiping of Lord Vishwakarma. The rituals are followed by the distribution of "prasad". People wear festive clothes on this day many also eat vegetarian food on this day. In some parts of India people also fly kites to celebrate this day.
