Body of former INPT woman recovered from forest

AGARTALA: The body of a tribal woman was spotted at a deep forest of a village under Udaipur Sub Division in Gomati District on Friday, a senior police official said.

The tribal woman, identified as Benubala Tripura went out to collect bamboo shoot from the forest at Barmacherra under RK Pur Police Station in the morning, but didn't return to her house till noon.

When her husband – Bikram Tripura searched for her in the forest, he discovered her body lying in the forest with deep injury marks on her hand, leg and face.

Getting the news, police personnel of the concerned police station rushed to the spot and took the body to the morgue for post mortem.

A specific case was registered in the concerned police station.

The slain woman joined the CPI (M) party in the last three-tier Panchayat elections leaving the INPT.

Police sources said that no weapon was found near the body. However, they suspected that she was injured by bamboo, though they are not sure whether she was raped before murder.

The police official said that she might be killed due to political reasons.
