Bhogali Bihu Special: Assam’s top 10 Bhela Ghar — Surgical Strike-theme adjudged Best Presentation

GUWAHATI: It's Bhogali Bihu. Amid the fun and frolic, Assam has been witnessing 'bhela ghars' (makeshift cottages built with bamboo and hay to spend the 'uruka' night) modelled on various structures, including a few world-famous and historic structures, since the past couple of years. Apart from these themes, the Ahom amphitheatre Rang Ghar and other similar structures have also been represented through these 'bhela ghars'.

In order to encourage people behind these creative and makeshift constructions, A Guwahati-based channel News Live had organized a competition where the top-ten 'bhela ghars' would be awarded with cash prizes. Here is the list of winners:

1. The 'bhela ghar' built at Borbeel, Howraghat in Karbi Anglong district that represented the surgical strike conducted by Indian troops on Pakistan was adjudged the best by the judges. The entire structure was meticulously designed and comprised a chopper, tank and even gun-wielding soldiers. The first prize carries a cash award of Rs 30,001.

2. The second prize went to the 'bhela ghar' modelled on the famous Titanic ship built in Jorhat. The second prize carries a cash award of Rs 20,001.

3. The third prize went to the Eiffel Tower modelled 'bhela ghar' constructed in Assam's Chirang district. The third prize carries a cash award of Rs 15,001.

4. The fourth prize went to the multi-storeyed 'bhela ghar' that also had displays like bull fights and was constructed at Pasnoi in Dhekiajuli.

5. The fifth prize went to the 'bhela ghar' that was built in Goalpara and was modelled on a helicopter.

6. The sixth prize went to the three-storeyed building-like 'bhela ghar' that was also equipped with a make-shift lift.

7. The seventh prize went to the 'bhela ghar' with the save rhino campaign constructed at Raha Amonishali.

8. The 'bhela ghar' constructed in Dhemaji that was modelled on the Rang Ghar was adjudged eight best in the list of top ten.

9. The boat-shaped 'bhela ghar' built at Bokakhat was adjudged ninth best.

10. The 'bhela ghar' constructed like a double-decker ship in Tezpur won the tenth and final place in the list of top-ten 'bhela ghars'.

The fourth best to tenth best 'bhela ghars' each carries a cash prize of Rs 5,001. The prizes can be collected from the NEWS LIVE headquarters in Guwahati.
