GUWAHATI:

A day ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit to poll-bound Assam, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will visit Guwahati on February 6 to attend a programme regarding the distribution of Rs 3000 each to eight lakh bank accounts of tea garden workers under a direct transfer benefit (DBT) scheme of the state government.

“She will be the chief guest at the programme to distribute Rs 3000 each to eight lakh bank accounts of tea garden labourers under the Rs 240 crore scheme at an event to be held at the Khanapara veterinary playground here on February 6,” Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed reporters here on Wednesday.

“Earlier, post-demonetisation and opening of bank accounts, we have been depositing Rs 2,500 in each account under the scheme. This year we have increased the amount per head to Rs 3, 000,” he said.
