Two held for violating COVID protocols at Guwahati airport

GUWAHATI:

Two persons have been arrested for allegedly violating safety COVID-19 protocols by forcefully getting out of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport at Borjhar in Guwahati, Assam without taking the mandatory COVID test here on Wednesday night, police said.

“An FIR was lodged by COVID duty officials of LGBI airport that some passengers violated COVID protocols by coming out of the airport forcefully without undergoing the mandatory COVID tests and obstructed them from doing their lawful duty,” an official statement said.

According to sources, the personnel on Covid-19 duty at the airport had lodged an FIR against 12 people who forcibly came out of the airport without taking the necessary tests. All of them had arrived on a flight from Delhi.

Accordingly, a case (number 56/2021) under sections 353/188/294/270/269 read with 51(B) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 was registered against them at the Azara police station.

Subsequently, two persons, identified as Dinesh Das (54) and Jayanta Gogoi (56), were arrested by Azara police in connection with the case.
