Union Home minister Amit Shah addressed two “Vijay Sankalp” rallies in Kokrajhar and Nalbari on Sunday afternoon, slamming the “divide and rule” policy of the Opposition Congress for creating disharmony among groups in the state and building a vote bank.
While addressing the rally, Home Minister Amit Shah said, “In the past tenure of the Congress, infiltrators could enter Assam. We have seen bloodshed with over 10,000 people losing their lives during the 15 years of Congress tenure in Assam.”
“Many agreements were signed during the Congress rule, but none of them have been implemented,” Shah said.
He asked how Assam could be protected under the Congress rule while claiming that the BJP government in the state has achieved in the past five years what Congress could not during their three terms.
The Home minister further questioned Congress’ accusation of the saffron party being communal when the Opposition party has tied up with the Ajmal-led AIUDF for a pre-poll alliance.
Shah urged the people of Assam to vote for the saffron party in the elections, claiming only the Narendra Modi-led BJP government can ensure peace and progress in Assam.
“Only the BJP can stop infiltrators from entering Assam. In the past five years, we have ensured all-round development, be it roads, bridges, airport infrastructure and logistics, medical and educational institutions, etc,” he said.
Earlier, addressing a rally in Kokrajhar on the occasion of the first anniversary of the signing of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Accord, Shah pledged that the historic accord would be implemented in letter and spirit.
