The Assam District Road Safety Committee, Dibrugarh, organised a bike rally for women on Tuesday.
The rally aimed to create awareness on road safety and was organised as part of the ‘32nd National Road Safety Month’ which began on January 18 and will conclude on February 17.
Dibrugarh MLA Prashanta Phukan, and Dibrugarh SP Prateek Vijay Thube, flagged off the rally from Mancotta Tea Estate field in the presence of District Transport Officer, Sanjiv Hazarika, Rajib Saikia, OC, Dibrugarh Sadar Police station, motor vehicle inspectors, Traffic Inspector Dipjyoti Dadhara and other officers.
The rally ended at Tirupati Mandappam in Seujpur.
While addressing reporters, Phukan said such awareness campaigns would help people realise the importance of obeying traffic rules.
“Women of our society can play a key role to enforce their family members to obey the traffic rules for the safety of the family. We hope today’s bike rally sends a message to the society to follow the traffic rules strictly for their safety,” SP Prateek Vijay Thube said.
“Over 1.50 lacs people lost their lives and about four lakh people get injured in road accidents in a year in India. We appeal people to follow the traffic rules for their safety and the safety of others,” DTO Sanjiv Hazarika said.
