GUWAHATI:

Police are investigating the allegations of rape of a 19-year-old girl by her boyfriend and his father at Kanakpur village under Dholai police station in Cachar district.

“The investigation was initiated on the basis of an FIR lodged by the girl on November 10 against the accused, Pritam Nath (the girl’s boyfriend) and his father, Panchu Nath,” Dholai police officer-in-charge, Sahabuddin confirmed on Monday.

“We are in the closing stages of our investigation but we cannot disclose anything to the media as of now,” he said.

The girl, sources inform, hails from Malugram village under Palonghat gaon panchayat in the southern Assam district.

Sources said that according to the complaint, the girl had been in courtship with Pritam for the past six months.

She also claimed that her father had made repeated requests to solemnise their wedding but the boy’s father did not pay any heed.

Panchu Nath, reacting to the complaint, rubbished the allegation of rape and claimed that he and his son Pritam were innocent.

Meanwhile, the girl’s father told local reporters on Monday that the police have not made any breakthrough even as it has been almost a week since the FIR was lodged.
