‘Hospital on wheels’ renders yeoman’s service to Assam patients

GUWAHATI:

A ‘hospital on wheels,’ christened the ‘Lifeline Express,’ is stationed at Badarpur railway in Karimganj Assam, offering state-of-the-art medical treatment to patients for free.

Over 206 projects have been conducted so far in the country under the Lifeline Express, with support from the Central Government and the Railway Ministry.

“Lifeline Express is the first hospital train in the world and travels across the country to treat patients, mainly those from remote areas,” an official of Northeast Frontier Railway confirmed on Tuesday.

The hospital train is equipped with two state-of-the-art operation theatres, five operating tables, a dental unit, X-ray unit, pathology lab and facilities for mammography.

The Railway Ministry also took to social media recently and shared pictures of the hospital.

The Lifeline Express will be stationed at Badarpur till January 18, 2021.

It is a joint initiative of Impact India Foundation and the Indian Railways.
