GUWAHATI:

The University Law College of Gauhati University has scheduled the Law College Students’ Union election for March 12.

They will also hold the counting of votes on the same day after 2:30 pm.

So far, none of the major student organisations at the university has officially revealed the names of their candidates.

According to students, the candidates backed by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) are most likely to win unopposed. They believe the election will be a walk in the park for AASU backed candidates as it is the most influential students’ union in Assam.

Regardless, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), an Indian National Congress (INC) affiliated organisation, has also backed several candidates for the posts of president, vice-president, assistant general secretary and cultural secretary.

The campaigning for the students’ union elections is going on in full swing at the hostels and Gauhati University campus.

Around 800 students from the college are eligible to exercise their vote.

“We are upbeat about the outcome of the election as most of our candidates will win uncontested, and in the remaining posts, we will win with thumping margins,” said a member of AASU at the University Law College.
