"Financial irregularities" in Assam's Dibrugarh University: Registrar, Dy Registrar suspended

DIBRUGARH:

Dibrugarh University Registrar Hari Chandra Mahanta and Deputy Register (Finance & Accounts) Diganta Borah have been suspended for their alleged involvement in the financial anomalies in the varsity.

Senior professor of the university and Director in-charge of the Directorate of Open and Distance Learning, Prof Jiten Hazarika will take over as the interim Registrar till completion of the disciplinary proceedings against the duo, and until further decision by the University Executive Council.

A four-member fact-finding committee was set up by the office of Assam Governor on Tuesday to probe into the alleged financial irregularities involving Dibrugarh University Vice-Chancellor Ranjit Tamuli.

The four-member team will be headed by Assam Commissioner and Secretary, Preetom Saikia. The other members who will assist Saikia are Commissioner Moloy Bora and scientific officers from the Directorate of Forensic Science, Rajiv Sensua and Israphil Musahari.

It was informed that the Joint Registrar (Administration), Paramananda Sonowal will also look after finance and accounts till the completion of the disciplinary proceedings, and until further decision of the University Executive Council.

Both Mahanta and Borah have been asked to be present in the office on-call and to extend necessary cooperation to the fact-finding committee.
