Excise Department to check supply of illicit liquor ahead of Assam polls

The Excise Department of Assam is all set to check and control the production, distribution and supply of illicit liquor in the state ahead of Assembly elections.

According to an official release issued on Friday, the Deputy Commissioners of all districts shall constitute task forces comprising excise and police officials.

District superintendents of the department would also be required to furnish daily reports on case detection, arrests and seizures made by police and the excise personnel.

The deputy commissioners and superintendents of police and excise of all districts sharing inter-state borders with Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland and West Bengal, and International Border with Bhutan and Bangladesh, shall hold coordination meetings to prevent illegal liquor inflow into the state.

“Check posts would be set up at specific locations,” stated the press release.

“Superintendents of excise shall ensure frequent and regular checking of all wholesale warehouses and retail shops in the bordering districts,” it added.
