Budding Assam cricketer among two youths found dead

The bodies of two youths, including a budding cricketer of Assam, were recovered from a waterfall in Karbi Anglong district on Monday.

The youths, Bibhakar Nag, who represented Assam in the under-16 and under-19 age groups, and Sudip Bagchi, were missing since Sunday.

Sources said that a team from the State Disaster Response Force carried out search operations and recovered their bodies from the deep waters of the Kakochang waterfall under Dolamara police station.

The duo hailed from Upper Assam's Golaghat district.

Bibhakar, 20, played for Assam in the Vijay Merchant Trophy during the 2015-16 season. Thereafter, he represented the state under-19 teams in 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.

"In the last season (2019-20), he took 18 wickets in four matches. In the match against Tamil Nadu, Bibhakar played a key role in Assam's victory by taking 10 wickets (both innings)," a statement by Assam Cricket Association (ACA) issued here on Monday, informed.

In a condolence message, the association expressed shock at the untimely demise of the promising right-arm medium-fast bowler.

Bibhakar was a fourth-semester student of Golaghat Commerce College.
