Assembly Polls: Notification for 1st phase in Assam, WB on March 2

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has informed that the notifications for the first phase of Assembly Elections in Assam and West Bengal will be issued on Tuesday, March 2.

Polling to 126 seats in Assam will take place in three phases -- 47 assembly constituencies will go to polls in the first phase on March 27; the second phase for 39 constituencies on April 1 and the third phase for 40 seats on April 6.

The counting of votes will be on May 2, he added.

A total of over 80 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in the first phase.

A total of 33,530 polling stations will be set up this year, marking an increase of 34.71 per cent from the 2016 Assembly polls.

In West Bengal, 30 assembly constituencies will go to polls in the first phase. Assembly elections in the State will be held in eight phases.
